Episode 705 - HVERNIG GENGUR...?

Today on RÚV English Radio, the lonely phone booth on the edge of Seyðisfjordur.

Hvernig gengur...? ("How are things", or more literally, "how goes it?"), is an artwork by Guðjón Ketilsson installed in Seyðisfjordur in 2006 to mark the 100-year anniversary of a submarine telegraph cable from the UK being brought ashore. A phone booth made of rusted iron was incorporated into the terrain. On its illuminated floor, in both Morse code and Roman letters, is the first message sent via the wire, “How are things…?", asking how the work of running the landline onward to Reykjavík was going.

There's much more soon on RÚV English Radio from the nearby Technical Museum of East Iceland.
