Today, RÚV English Radio is in the Westfjords town of Drangsnes, for a true "good news" story...
Last month, a whale was spotted behaving strangely in the waters of Steingrímsfjörður, off the shore at Drangsnes, by Judith Scott of Laki Tours. She raised the alarm with Tom Grove from the charity Whale Wise (https://whalewise.org/). Over the course of the next short while it became clear that the whale was trapped and entangled in fishing gear.
In a coordinated effort between The Iceland Food and Veterinary Authority (MAST), rescue agency ICE-SAR, local Icelandic fishers, Judith, and the Whale Wise team, the story slowly moved to a very happy ending.
Darren travelled to Drangsnes to meet Tom and Judith.
