Today on RÚV English Radio, the remarkable (and strangely unknown) story of how tuberculosis claimed the lives of five thousand Icelanders over five decades.

The Hælið museum and cafe (https://www.facebook.com/haelid.is/) just south of Akureyri details how this terrible disease was dealt with in the north of Iceland, right up until the point in the 70s when suitable medication finally became available.
