Episode 679 - ICELAND'S ITINERANT ARCTIC CIRCLE

Apologies - but this is NOT a photo of the Arctic Circle!

The only part of Iceland within the Arctic Circle is a small part of the island of Grímsey - and a decreasing part at that.

The circle is moving because of a slow but continuous shift in the planet's "tilt". It means the Arctic Circle is moving north by 15 metres each year.

Darren is on Grímsey, standing where the circle used to be marked, before a new (and mobile) artwork was installed on the island, in 2017.
