Episode 939 - THE RHINESTONE COWBOY, TJARNARBÍÓ

Today on RÚV English Radio, the new play coming to Tjarnarbíó this week.

Dan 'The Man' Docherty came to Reykjavik from Edinburgh to study graphic design and stayed for 9 years. He was a well known figure at Kaffibarin as he worked there for many years, and also became a member of the Border Control team at Keflavík Airport.  There is even a photo of him in Ölstofan, his favourite bar.

Tragically, he suffered from severe mental health issues and in August 2024 took his own life near his home.

His mum Heidi, also known as Hjarta the Poet, is the writer/performer/producer of a new one woman play 'The Rhinestone Cowboy' (https://tix.is/en/event/21979/rhinestone-cowboy), telling Dan's story, with music from his brother Harry (Bongo).

Darren met them both.
